What Breaks, and Who Could Fix It

What breaks

Anything multi-die needs known-good-die data, and that data has to come from somewhere. Buying it means depending on the fab’s test coverage rather than your own.

Who could fix it

The probe card itself is a MEMS-class product. The realistic Indian position is in the mechanical assembly around it and in card cleaning and refurbishment services.

Probe can be bought as a service from test houses, so a packaging plant can begin operating on wafers already sorted by the fab.

Worst case if this breaks

Packaging a bad die costs the full assembly value of a good one. On a module with a dozen die, weak probe coverage destroys the economics outright.

Best case to fix it

Probe card stiffeners, space transformers and prober fixtures are precision fabrication with a real Indian tool-room path.

Worst case to fix it

Probe card refurbishment requires calibration equipment and a customer willing to hand over an asset worth more than the service. Trust comes before revenue.

Reading Key

Every entry carries the same five figures, so two inputs anywhere in the chain can be compared directly. What each one is, and what it is not:

Import dependency
The share of Indian demand for this input that is met by imports today.
